Conserve water, so it is available for those in need! When you think about clean water, the first thing that pops in your mind is rain water. Isn’t that, right? Saving this water and utilizing it can be beneficial in multiple ways. For instance, it can be used for household purposes. As you all know, it rains a lot in Pakistan especially in monsoon season. Frequent rain means, a lot of saved water. So, start investing in canals on your rooftops rather sooner than later. A short shower won’t harm you but will help those experiencing the lack of clean water. Rather than wasting it by taking long showers, its preferred to use buckets as a lot of water is conserved. This could also be done by turning off the tap while brushing your teeth. Make sure to reuse water wherever you can. Such little gestures and actions count. Did you know? Around 800,000 deaths are caused by waterborne diseases every year in Pakistan. Isn’t that depressing? The water people get in rural areas is filled chemicals and bacteria. This mostly leads to dangerous waterborne diseases that are very harmful to one’s immune system. Water that is unsafe to drink also cause skin rashes, cancer and other health issues. First and foremost, the riskiest out of all waterborne diseases is Cholera. It’s a bacteria that instantly leads to diarrhoea which is an infection of the intestine. Reports show that diarrhoea is a deadly infection and many children in Pakistan are affected by it. Scarcity of clean water has become one of the most important social issues in Pakistan. We are sure you have already heard about this before. Many people don’t have access to clean water and are forced to drink contaminated water and use it in household chores. This makes it hard for children and other humans to survive. Knowing the importance of water, one would understand how difficult and hard it is for them to go by their daily routine. It is suggested that a person drinks at least 1.5 litres of water everyday but this shortage of clean water has made it impossible for many people. Purify Pakistan is an awareness campaign led by university students with the main motive of putting forward this issue as its severity is barely acknowledged.
